Languages in current use
The "common language" is Cyrodilic, the language of the Empire. This is descended from Altmeris, Nordic, and other languages, in the same way that English is descended from Latin, French, Italian, etc.
Other languages in use are generally 'racial languages' and are as follows:
- Dunmer - Dunmeris (uses the Daedric alphabet)
- Orcs - Orcish
- Altmer - Altmeris
- Bosmer - Bosmeris
- Khajit - Ta-agra
- Argonian - Jel
- Nords - Nordic
Old languages
Known by mages, scholars and history students.
- Aldmeris
- Chimeris - old Dunmeris.
Exotic languages
- Elder Scroll runes - only on the Elder Scrolls themselves
Dead languages
No translation known. (You cannot begin knowing these languages.)
